Barry Llewellyn (b. 1998) is an Irish designer based in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. After receiving his BA from Design Academy Eindhoven, Barry established his practice around the creation of experimental objects for interior spaces. Working with a diverse range of materials such as ceramic, glass, metal, stone, plastic, and electronics—he explores the intrinsic qualities of each material, highlighting their hidden beauty and unexpected harmonies. By binding these materials into new, organic forms, he crafts pieces that are rich in colour, texture, and depth, inviting viewers to reconsider the forms and materials that shape our surroundings.
About the studio:
Studio Barry Llewellyn is rooted in a hands-on approach, with most production processes being carried out in-house. From metal work–welding, plasma cutting and casting to kiln-based glass and ceramic work, stone carving, woodworking and plastic casting, we explore a wide range of materials from our studio in Rotterdam South. With the introduction of flocking equipment, we will soon be the only design studio in Europe to provide in-house industrial flocking. Our focus on internal production not only results in fast lead times, but also allows for in depth material research and experimentation. We are always keen to explore new challenges – if anything in the catalogue inspires you, we welcome the opportunity to create custom commissions tailored to your vision.
